Stanley is an energetic Thai Ridgeback in Seattle...you can't tell from this photo though!
Stanley is up for Adoption! Stanley is in a foster home, and is currently not at the shelter. Please find contact information at the end of his story.
When Stanley first came to the shelter he was almost completely feral, but this strikingly handsome boy has come a long way. He’s been working hard to overcome his shyness – but don’t let his shy demeanor fool you – once you break the ice he’s a real lover! He’ll sometimes lean his head into whoever’s petting him – he likes back massages too. He hasn’t had a lot of experience interacting with people, and needs a compassionate, patient, yet firm guardian with lots of prior dog experience. (Breed experience is even better.) Stanley’s ridged back and exotic features bring lots of attention as you walk him down the street – everyone wants to know what kind of dog he is!
Thai Ridgebacks are a very intelligent breed and need clear boundaries. Their energy level is typically medium, with most of the day spent lounging, then activity periods occurring in sporadic bursts. Properly socialized, they make loyal, loving family pets. They’re naturally protective of their home and family. They remain independent minded, and much of their original natural instinct and drives remain intact, particularly prey drive. Thai Ridgebacks are definitely not recommended for the novice dog guardian! With an excellent jumping ability they may seek to roam if not properly contained.
At two years old, Stanley has plenty of energy and loves long walks. He’s very curious and has a knack for finding things you thought were hidden! He likes other dogs as long as the excitement level doesn’t become too elevated. A calm, consistent home environment with adults and kids at least thirteen would be best. And – no cats please. A great way for Stanley to bond with his forever family will be training classes – it will be good mental stimulation for him and he’ll become a good canine citizen as well! Do your research, and if you’re a good match, Stanley would love to meet you!

Swiper is currently in foster car and looking for a home!
Swiper is up for Adoption! Swiper is in a foster home, and is currently not at the shelter.
Hi! My name is Swiper and I’m looking for my perfect match. I’m nicely sized (not too big and not too small), athletic, and very handsome (if I do say so myself). As a Jack Russell, mixed I think maybe with some Pointer, I love to be active – so if you like taking long walks, running, or just playing, I could be the little man for you!!
I’ve attended a few basic manners classes and am happy to report that I’ve mastered sit, shake (with whichever paw you ask for!) and down. I like to get where I’m going, so “stay” and “heel” are not my favorite, but I promise to work on them if you promise to help. At a little more than one year old, I try to always give 110% to everything I do. Whether that’s playing with my foster brother, chasing after squirrels, or cuddling after a day of playing, I give all I have (typically to the amusement of the humans around me…but then humans are so easily amused).
Well, enough about me. Tell me about you. Do you have another dog at home I could play with (but let’s agree on no cats, okay)? Do you stay active, like me? Do you have a secure fenced yard were I can sniff out new smells for hours at a time? Are you ready for a devoted companion? If so, let’s meet and start the adventure!

Cookie is a sweet pointer-mix puppy in Seattle!
Cookie is up for Adoption! Cookie is in a foster home, and is currently not at the shelter. Cookie is a very sweet 9 week old (as of 12-5-09) pointer mix puppy who is in foster care and wishing that she could be home for Christmas! She has sleek, soft, short black hair, with classic black-on-white speckles on her paws, belly, and chest. She will probably be a fairly large, lean, athletic dog when she grows up, and will need an active family with time for daily walks (or runs!) and backyard play. She has a gentle, trusting temperament, and already loves to walk on her leash, play fetch, and explore outside. When playtime is over, she likes to snuggle up on the nearest human’s lap or curl beside us on the couch for a long winter’s nap.
Cookie is working on her house training, crate-training, and basic obedience, and is very responsive to treats and praise. She gets along well with our resident dog and is learning to respect our cats, but shows perhaps a little too much interest in our bird (she is a bird dog, after all!). She was spayed last week, and is ready to meet her new family!
