Big Daddy is a really friendly Dog!

Big Daddy is up for Adoption!   Meet Big Daddy! He’s one good looking guy, and he knows it.  We are guessing this cutie is about 3-5 years old.  Big Daddy is such a devoted and loving dog, it’s hard to understand why anyone would dump him at a shelter.  He’s a labrador/pitbull mix and has quite the traits of a Labrador.  He adores his ball, and fetch is just about his favorite thing.  Big Daddy is very friendly and outgoing with everyone he meets.  He’s a real pleaser.  He’s working on his commands, and is becoming a very proper boy as he is super food motivated!  He is fine with other dogs, but would probably do best as an only dog.

Wrigley is up for adoption in sunny Florida!

Wrigley is up for Adoption!  Wrigley is a male 2 year old Pointer mixed breed dog. He weighs 53 pounds and was brought to our shelter on December 29th of 2009 because the owners had no time for him. According to the previous owners, Wrigley was kept indoors and is house trained. They didn’t know if he was good with children, because they didn’t have any children. From what we’ve observed here at the shelter, Wrigley is very energetic and loves to play. He seems to be a bit on the shy side until he meets you and feels comfortable with you. He’s a very nice dog!

Jammies and a Friend!

Molly and Bella are up for Adoption!  Bella and Molly This is Bella (blue leash) and Molly (red). Though they look like twin cocker spaniels, they are not related. Years ago, Molly was adopted from BARC and Bella from the ASPCA, but after their owners decided to have a baby, these little ladies were homeless once more. Niko is a cute little fella!

Stanley is an energetic Thai Ridgeback in Seattle...you can't tell from this photo though!

Stanley is up for Adoption!  Stanley is in a foster home, and is currently not at the shelter. Please find contact information at the end of his story.

When Stanley first came to the shelter he was almost completely feral, but this strikingly handsome boy has come a long way. He’s been working hard to overcome his shyness – but don’t let his shy demeanor fool you – once you break the ice he’s a real lover! He’ll sometimes lean his head into whoever’s petting him – he likes back massages too. He hasn’t had a lot of experience interacting with people, and needs a compassionate, patient, yet firm guardian with lots of prior dog experience. (Breed experience is even better.) Stanley’s ridged back and exotic features bring lots of attention as you walk him down the street – everyone wants to know what kind of dog he is!

Thai Ridgebacks are a very intelligent breed and need clear boundaries. Their energy level is typically medium, with most of the day spent lounging, then activity periods occurring in sporadic bursts. Properly socialized, they make loyal, loving family pets. They’re naturally protective of their home and family. They remain independent minded, and much of their original natural instinct and drives remain intact, particularly prey drive. Thai Ridgebacks are definitely not recommended for the novice dog guardian! With an excellent jumping ability they may seek to roam if not properly contained.

At two years old, Stanley has plenty of energy and loves long walks. He’s very curious and has a knack for finding things you thought were hidden! He likes other dogs as long as the excitement level doesn’t become too elevated. A calm, consistent home environment with adults and kids at least thirteen would be best. And – no cats please. A great way for Stanley to bond with his forever family will be training classes – it will be good mental stimulation for him and he’ll become a good canine citizen as well! Do your research, and if you’re a good match, Stanley would love to meet you!

HOW TO ADOPT – Please fill out a Dog Adoption Application and email or fax it to the Seattle Animal Shelter Foster Dog Program. Click the highlighted links to download the form and send us your application.  Our fax number is 206-386-4285.

Alternatively, you may fill out or drop off the application at the Seattle Animal Shelter, located at 2061 15th Ave. W (1 mile south of the Ballard Bridge, at the corner of W. Armory Way). The shelter is open six days a week, Tuesday – Sunday, noon – 6 p.m. and closed on Mondays and holidays.

Important note: Many of our dogs will receive numerous applications, and the Seattle Animal Shelter asks for your patience during the process of finding the very best match. If you have general questions about this dog, you may call the shelter and speak with the Animal Care Staff at 206-386-7387. They are available six days a week, Tuesday through Sunday, noon – 6 p.m. However, if you would like to arrange to meet this dog, you must submit an adoption application.
